K K Modi, President, Godfrey Phillips India Ltd, acquired a significant financial interest and shareholding in the company in 1979 and took over the management of the company. He revamped the whole organizational structure, added new talent, upgraded and enhanced the manufacturing facilities, in addition to making substantial investments in building brand equity. Gradually, the company rose to become the No. 2 player from No. 5 in the cigarette industry in India.

Mr Modi is also the Chairman of Modi Enterprises, a Group of Companies, many with international partners, including cigarettes, tea & beverages, entertainment, consumer products, network marketing, chemicals, tertiary education and Gourmet restaurants.

Mr Modi has made a significant contribution to Indian industry and holds numerous positions in the industry, trade, education, sports and charitable organizations such as President of CACCI (2002-2004, 2004-2006), Past-President of FICCI (1997-98); former President of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (1983-84), Member of the Board of Governors, Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.

Ms. Modi ventured into the food business by starting an Italian bar & restaurant EGO which has today expanded to include Ego Thai and Ego Cafe. The restaurants have won numerous awards and have become a favorite destination for the whos who of the city.
