School of Languages

The School of Languages offers programs that can successfully transition you to your academic program at Stratford University. Our goal is to make your transition to academic life as smooth as possible. The school uses the latest and most effective methods of teaching English.

In partnership with Scottish Qualifications Authority, MAII offers four levels of English Language - Access 3, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Higher. A placement test is taken at entry, the results of which are calibrated to CEF and other international levels. This establishes the appropriate course for the student. Mid-course evaluations and end of course tests are used to determine progress/level achieved by the student. All tests are internationally validated.

Also on offer are courses in French for Beginners and Advanced Learners.

The method of teaching-learning employed is useful for students to focusing on language items and accuracy as well as to have opportunities for natural language acquisition, since both learning and acquisition are important for language learning.

Each English language course is organized into 40+ classroom hours involving role-playing, problem-solving, exchange of information to provide an opportunity for communicative use of language, controlled practice of grammar, pronunciation and focusing on rhythm and stress. Vocabulary building is achieved through a systematic coverage of topics, whereby grammar structures are revised in vocabulary and vocabulary is recycled in grammar.

Skills developed during the course include speaking, listening, reading, pronunciation and writing. In addition to the class-room hours, students are required to complete 40+ self-study hours.
