FRENCH I

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course develops standard writing skills and assists students in becoming writers and readers. It stresses on grammatical usage, mechanical writing skills, writing for coherence and correctness. Expository methods of paragraphs, short message and research report are covered.

Course Objectives

Students will be introduced to the formation of solid oral and aural skills in colloquial French with a firm grammatical and cultural background. Focus is on natural conversation, good command of listening skills, and the ability to write narratives consistent with grammar and vocabulary of the text. Grammatical points presented are explained and students are expected to use in both oral and written forms. Still the main focus is communicative use of natural French in a variety of situations. These include but are not limited to expressing personal traits, telling time, asking basic questions using interrogatives, and describing daily activities using regular and irregular verbs.

After completion of this course, students will demonstrate the following:

  • The ability to apply basic grammar skills in French;
  • An understanding of written French ; and
  • A basic knowledge of French culture.

Oral and Written skills are further developed with an emphasis on practical, business, and travel-related contexts.

  • Agreement of Article
  • Application of French verbs
  • Past tense
  • Adjective
  • Pronominal Verbs/midterm test
  • Food habits
  • Climate
  • Review/Final Exam



FRENCH II

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course uses vocabulary and structure through a series of activities designed for realistic communication which allow students to achieve both written and spoken French language skills. Through reading, dialogue, and associated study, students develop an understanding of the language and cultural distinctions of French speakers worldwide.
