From the summer of 2005, all overseas students graduating from a Scottish university or college with an Higher National Diploma (HND)Degree, Masters or PhD can apply to stay on and work in Scotland for an additional two years under the government's Fresh Talent Working in Scotland scheme. This scheme only applies to Scotland.
Currently, the most popular choice for students after completing an HND is to go on to a degree in a UK university.
If you complete aSQA HND program in a SQA - approved centre, you will be able to apply to a UK university. Some of the UK universities are listed below, but there are many more that participate in this program.
Students who have completed their HND will be able to apply directly into the 3rd year of a degree program to a UK university or entry into a two-year programe leading to a Master's degree. This two-year program will usually have an exit point at the end of Year 1, which will probably be an Honour's degree. Entry into these programs depends on the successful completion of all 27 HND Unit credits and getting a specified set of results in your three Graded Unit credits (this is known as a 'Graded Unit profile'). The Graded Unit profile is specified by the UK University and not by SQA.
The UK University will also require some evidence of English language ability. Depending on the degree you select you may have to undertake some form of bridging program- either in India or in the UK.
The Units you will do in your HND course cover important skills such as working as a team, problem solving and using information technology.
